Girls cricket

Before its "all about the Girls"

Before we focus totally on the Girls we should mention that several of our Girls also play "mixed" cricket with the boys, especially in our Friday night Under 10s (Mini Bash) and Under 12s.

And believe me, they more than hold their own.  Jasmine Dane, playing her first year of cricket, captained our Under 12/4 team, whilst a number of Girls have won trophies as being amongst the best players in their team.

And several of our Girls played representative cricket, playing for the Ringwood (RDCA) team against other teams in Melbourne

Girls Cricket is booming!!!

Anyone who follows cricket knows that the female segment of the sport is booming.  The Australian Women's team is the "top of the tree" and players like Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy are household names.  The Womens' Big Bash League (WBBL) grows in popularity every Season.

And local "Girls Only" cricket is growing fast.  Our local Association, the Ringwood & District Cricket Association (RDCA) commenced the Stars Girls League 4 Seasons ago, with only a handful of teams in the Under 12 age group.  In 2022/23 there was more than 10 teams in the Under 12s and up to 16 teams in the Under 15s.  And the numbers of teams and players will grow again in 2023/24.

Warranwood Girls Cricket

At Warranwood we fielded our first Girls Only Under 12 team in the 2018/19 Season.  Starting with only 6-7 players we ended the Season with 10 players, as more Girls discovered the fun of Girls Only cricket. Two of our players went on to represent our Association against other regions across Melbourne in the Under 14 Representative Carnival.

In 2022/23 we will be fielding an U12 team and combined with another local Club (Chirnside Park) to field a team in the Under 15s

In 2023/24 we hope to field teams in both the Under 12s and Under 15s.  Contact us if you would like to play with the Sharks in 2023/24.  Call Steve Toohey on 0413 458 349.
