Warranwood (WWD) has had at least one team in the RDCA Veterans competition since 1989.
For season 2010/11 we will have two Masters teams (over 40’s) and one Legends team (over 50’s) and all games are played on the same Sunday.
The Legends side will be defending the Premiership they womn in 2009/10.
Games are played fortnightly on a Sunday (start at 1.00pm) usually commencing the last Sunday in October. (refer www.rdca.com for the full fixture and rules).
Max. 6 overs per bowler, 8 bowlers must bowl, batsmen retire at 40, can have 13 players but only 11 can bat or bowl, 36 overs per side.
Training for veterans is dependant on the individual's desire, some play golf, others enjoy the bar on the Thursday night before the Sunday game and others need to train at least one night a week with the seniors to retain a fitness level that minimises the chance of injury.
Generally at WWD, Veterans train with the seniors on the Thursday night before the Sunday game, usually there are not enough veterans to have a separate training session.
The Veterans motto is “Strive to do your best, never give up and treat people with respect”, games are usually played in good spirit and whilst the desire to win is always present enjoying the afternoon of cricket is also important as is walking when you know you are out.
The success of any cricket club is dependent on a membership that spans all the age levels of the competition, juniors, seniors and veterans so if you want to get some fresh air and run around a bit then you should play Veterans cricket.
If you have children interested in cricket you should consider our non-comp. events or Milo In2 Cricket program or playing in our father/son side on a Saturday, often a reintroduction to cricket after a few years off. Father/daughter combinations should not be discouraged as we have had several girls play in the Saturday competition over the past 10 years or so.
